The West Ranch Beacon will be giving a daily update on the continuing preparations for this years July 4th Fireworks Spectacular in Stevenson Ranch. With 6 days to go the County Fire Inspector has requested that we have a water tanker truck up at the park on the evening of the 4th of July. The purpose would be to water down the natural brush area adjacent to the park and the large water tank.
We’re in the process of arranging for that water truck to be delivered to the park either on the 3rd or the 4th. Given the concerns over the dry conditions we have jumped on this quickly and made the necessary arrangements. Our main concern from the inception of this community event has and will always be safety.
The Fire Department has indicated that the cost associated with fire suppression of a wildfire is roughly $750,000 an HOUR. If a fire were to be ignited from the use of illegal fireworks, than the individual(s) responsible would potential be liable for those costs. The Fire Department has urged residents not to engage in the use of illegal fireworks and instead attend a sanctioned show like the Stevenson Ranch or City of Santa Clarita public Fireworks displays.
