Last week was an amazing week in Southern California. With an unprecedented number of fires breaking out in the region and locally in the Santa Clarita Valley, we at the West Ranch Beacon kicked it into high gear in order to keep the coverage as timely and relevant as humanly possible. It has been abundantly clear that we were successful in our efforts based the sites high traffic and on the wonderful emails that we received not only locally, but also from around the country praising our coverage.

I say we because the West Ranch Beacon is not a one man operation and has not been for some time. Special thanks go to Nancy for helping out with posting time sensitive fire information and relevant emergency information throughout last week during the worst of the fires. Also to Ken for supplying addition help on the posting front as well as formatting several pieces and to Tim Myer’s for his special column last Wednesday. Thanks go out to Ron Mita for the fantastic photos that he took of the Magic and Ranch fires. And finally, much appreciation and thanks go to Nick who is our behind the scenes technical guru.

Most of all, we have to thank the men and woman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff, California Highway Patrol, and all the State and Federal agencies that aided in battling the fires. They all did an amazing job and their incredible efforts resulted in minimal loss of property locally compared with what might have happened. All of us owe them a debt of gratitude for their unwavering commitment to serving and protecting our communities.

On a different note, in the coming weeks we will be unveiling our newly redesigned site that promises to be a big leap forward. We will continue to build on the great feedback you, our readers, have given us and we’ll continue to be “current, sometimes controversial, and always thought provoking.”
