There has been a lot of discussion lately about the price of gas and speculation on just how high it will go this summer. Some seem to think that by July 4th gas will hit at least $5.00. Diesel is already fast approaching $5.50. So what could possibly be the silver lining to these high prices? I have noticed, over the last several weeks that traffic on the freeways is actually starting to get lighter. Last week I had to drive down to Anaheim during the day. It was an absolute breeze going down there and only took me 35 minutes to get back to Burbank.

Generally speaking, it appears to me that traffic is lightening up as the price of gas continues to go up. I think people are thinking more about the importance of each trip in their cars and are probably starting to car pool more.

Yesterday, I happened to notice that the Ride-Share parking lots at Golden Valley Road and the 14 Freeway were fairly full. Over the years some of these lots were half empty most of the time.

Having lived in Europe for a time, I can tell you that gas at $4.00-$5.00 a gallon is nothing compared to what is paid in many countries especially in Europe. Typically gas is has been close to double what it is here in the States. Often in Europe drivers are paying anywhere between $8.00 and $11.00 a gallon depending on the country.

We should feel lucky that we are only paying $4.00 a gallon. I don’t mind and I think it is really contributing to the traffic getting lighter!
