This morning I headed up to the Stevenson Ranch Elementary School to speak to the congregation of the Royal Oaks Community Church. I do this periodically throughout the year to let the church members know of an event or to plead for their help with an event. It is usually the later!

Most residents in Stevenson Ranch are unaware of the fact that our fireworks show would not have been possible without the generosity of the church volunteers. For the past 10 years the volunteers have stepped up to the plate and have made the show possible because without them there would never have been a show. Many of these church volunteers don’t even live in Stevenson Ranch yet they give there time selflessly to make sure that our community has a great Independence Day celebration.

One of the disappointments of doing this event is the lack of volunteers from the community. Every year we ask for volunteers and every year we have the same group of individuals that basically have been putting on this show for the past decade.

Since this is the 10th Anniversary show we are going to honoring 18 volunteers and two organizations with certificates, scrolls and citations from Federal, State and County governments. It is a token of appreciation for all the hard work and dedication of volunteers in staging the Stevenson Ranch Fireworks Spectacular. This is the core group that has made our event the “Best Fireworks Show in the Santa Clarita Valley!”

More tomorrow on our great sponsors; contrary to popular opinion, this show is not a birthright or an entitlement for residents in Stevenson Ranch!
