After reading the two previous posting about the L.A. Times doing more lay offs and the Christian Science Monitor going from a daily to a weekly paper one can not help but think when will the Signal scale back to at least a weekly. That paper was a weekly at one time and I don’t see how they can still make a go it as a daily in the current environment.

Newspapers are bleeding cash all over the country and continue to scale back staff. That in turn further reduces the local content in those papers. The big mistake is that they are replacing local content with Associated Press and Reuters stories which anyone with a computer can get off the internet. So why even bother subscribing to a paper when you can get all for free?

So the The Signal owners keep putting career newspapermen in charge who don’t appear to be able to think outside the box. This is why it is only a matter of time before that paper is shuttered especially in the current economic environment as ad revenues shrink.

It is a sad state of affairs to see an industry not willing to change with innovations and just continue down a road that will surely lead to demise.
