Behind the cold front is a very cold and unstable air mass which will bring a threat of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms into Saturday. There could be brief heavy downpours, hail, gusty winds and even possible waterspouts. Rainfall amounts are expected to range from ½ to 1 inch across the coastal and valley areas with up to 3 inches possible for the foothills and lower mountain elevations.
Behind the cold front snow levels will fall rapidly to as low as 500 feet north of Point Conception with 1 to 2 feet of snow possible in the mountains above 5000 feet. Lighter snow accumulations are possible across the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valley’s.
In addition the may be strong southwest winds with gusts to 50 MPH which could cause breif whiteout conditions. Snow and icy conditions will likely impact many of the major mountain roads including I-5 Santa Clarita to the Grapevine as well as Highway 14 from the Santa Clarita Valley through the Antelope Valley. Due to the unusually low snow levels expected, some of the lower elevation roadways that are especially at risk for snow include the 101, Highway 154, as well as the 126 and 118 Freeways.
Travel may be difficult along some roadways at times as weather conditions will make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Extra caution is advised. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!
