On Wednesday, March 16, 2011, a 50 year old homeless woman was brought into the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Emergency Room (ER) by ambulance complaining of wrist pain. She was evaluated by the Hospital staff and sent “home” at 7:00 PM.

The woman then returned at 8:00 PM and now complained of chest pain, headache and heart fluttering. ER Staff reexamined the woman and ordered lab work, electrocardiogram, and other tests. Once again, she was sent “home” around midnight.

Because the woman was homeless, she went into the waiting room and was observed sitting in the ER waiting room at around 1:00 AM. She was sitting in a chair and was thought to be asleep. At about 7:00 AM on the morning of March 17, 2011, the woman was discovered to be dead. The LA County Sheriff’s was called to investigate. The body was transported to the coroner’s office for evaluation and possible autopsy.
