U.S. House Bids to Salvage Boehner Debt Bill  -  House Republican leaders, four days before a threatened U.S. default and facing stiff resistance within their ranks to raising the U.S. debt ceiling, plan to make a second try at passing legislation that is headed for a Senate roadblock. IN THE SENATE

  1. The Senate convenes at 9:30am.
  2. Following any Leader remarks, the Senate will recess until 11:00am.
  3. At 11:00am, the Senate will be in morning business until 12:00pm with Senators permitted to speak therein for up to 10 minutes each with the time equally divided and controlled between the two Leaders or their designees.
  4. At 12:00pm, the Majority Leader will be recognized. 
  5. Senate panel schedules Google antitrust hearing  -  The Senate’s antitrust panel has scheduled its hearing on Google Inc’s use of its considerable market clout for mid-September, the Senate Judiciary Committee said in a brief statement on Thursday. (Reuters)

Consumer Bureau Plans Enforcement Based on FTC’s ‘Stable’ Model  -  The U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau plans to follow enforcement procedures “based largely on the existing, stable model” used by the Federal Trade Commission, according to a document on the bureau’s website.   3. House GOP targets songs and sunburns  -  With the Interior-EPA 2012 spending bill on the House floor and no final vote in sight, GOP lawmakers have seized the opportunity to try to block agency programs both large and small. (Politico) 
  4. Analysis: Rick Perry run would test Romney’s mettle  -  The easy ride will end if Texas governor Rick Perry jumps into the Republican race — especially since Perry has the strong record on job creation that Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts, claims for himself. (Reuters) 

FEDERAL GRANT OF THE DAY

  • Bus and Bus Facilities Program Funds: Solicitation of Project Proposals for Veterans Transportation and Community Living Initiative (VTCLI) Grants The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announces the availability of discretionary Section 5309 Bus and Bus Facilities grant funds in support of the Federal Interagency Coordinating Council on Access and Mobility (CCAM or Coordinating Council) Veterans Transportation and Community Living Initiative (VTCLI or Initiative). This VTCLI grant opportunity makes funds available to local governmental agencies and its partners to finance capital costs of implementing, expanding, or increasing access to local One-Call/One-Click Transportation Resource Centers. These Centers simplify access to transportation for the public by connecting customers in one place to rides and transportation options provided in their locality by a variety of transportation providers and programs. Additionally, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will make mobility management training assistance and support available to Veteran’s Affairs networks in communities selected for award. The Department of Labor (DOL) will make social communication technologies and training available to selected grantees in order to actively engage veterans, military service personnel and families as well as others in the community in the development of plans to better respond to the transportation needs of veterans and military service families.
