According to local sources, the West Ranch Beacon has learned that Patricia McKeon, wife of Congressman Buck McKeon, is planning to run for the 38th State Assembly District. The seat is currently held by Cameron Smyth who is termed out of office in 2012. According to one source, the plan is for Patricia McKeon to get elected to the State Assembly seat in 2012. Patricia McKeon has been quietly meeting with potential supporter in SCV, some of whom are feeling pressured to support her.

Patricia McKeon has never held public office but has been a driving force behind the political career of her husband Buck McKeon. She has had a lot of support from her husband already with his local political operative and Deputy Chief of Staff Bob Haueter working behind the scenes.

Haueter has been making calls and visiting individuals to help build or shore up support for Patricia. She has been known as a strong person locally and sometimes can be harsh or abrupt with some. On the flip side, Patricia has also been a very generous and helpful person to many in Congressman McKeon’s district.

Some locals are concerned that the seat traditionally held by a Republican could be lost to a Democrat as backlash against the status-quo. These fears are being exacerbated by the anemic economy and the political bickering in Washington. There is a real worry that some may say they will support Mrs. McKeon but once in the voting booth will vote for her opponent.

There will be more to come as this story develops.
