From the-signal.com) The statistics were clearly presented: The leading cause of death for Americans 15-20 years old is motor-vehicle collisions. “Inexperience is killing you, and you have a lot of restrictions on your license because of that,” California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer John Lutz said during a safety seminar Thursday.

The lessons came courtesy of Start Smart, a California Highway Patrol program meant to keep California’s young drivers informed and safe when on the road.

Locally, the CHP’s Newhall Station offers free Start Smart classes every month, giving newly licensed drivers and their parents a chance to learn about driving laws from the people who enforce them.
