(From the-signal.com) After nearly four years of construction, Santa Clarita Valley residents may be wondering when the bridge connecting carpool lanes from Interstate 5 to Highway 14 will finally be done. The answer is a bit more than a year from now, according to California Department of Transportation officials.

Construction on the $161 million project began in 2008 and is expected to be completed in early summer 2013.

The project is about 80 percent complete, said Caltrans Public Information Officer Kelly Markham.

The goal is to allow motorists to seamlessly transfer from carpool lanes on Interstate 5 to carpool lanes on Highway 14 without having to exit to regular driving lanes, Markham said.
