(From the AP) More work on the Los Angeles-area freeway project that led to last summer’s so-called “Carmageddon” could bring some commuter struggles as the work week begins. Transportation officials say workers are shutting down the southbound side of Interstate 405 between the 101 Freeway and Getty Center Drive overnight, but it is scheduled to be open again before Monday morning rush hour begins.
The work to build temporary supports for the Mulholland Bridge began Friday night and will continue through Wednesday.
The bridge’s south side was torn down last summer.
That project and the accompanying freeway shutdown were widely hyped as a potential “Carmageddon,” but a massive information campaign kept the streets largely clear.
The bridge’s other side is scheduled to be demolished and bring a similar shutdown later this year.
