An important open house meeting will be held Thursday, May 31th (any time from) 4-7 p.m to urge the Forest Service to protect the last few wild and Roadless Areas in the San Gabriel Mountains. The meeting will be held at the Santa Clara Mojave Rivers Ranger District Office located at 33708 Crown Valley Road in Acton.
Attendees will be able to: Review maps; Learn about the Forest Service Recommended changes; Fill out a comment card to determine the future of our forest.
These roadless areas add up to almost 100,000 acres and provide us with magnificent scenery, hiking and clean water. The Community Hiking Club wants to see all the roadless areas they have identified in their management plan protected forever as wilderness!
Fish Canyon Roadless Area, (pictured above), which under current plans would not be protected as wilderness by the Forest Service. Other Roadless areas in the Fish Canyon area are: Elderberry Canyon, Red Mountain, Tule, and Salt Creek. All of these areas are within 20 minutes of Santa Clarita!!! These are the last remaining areas in our district that could become wilderness. If these areas are destroyed by mining, utility towers and illegal off roading, District 25 will have NO WILDERNESS, ever! There is no other land suitable for wilderness.
Please ask the Forest Service to protect the areas closest to us and other special places like Condor Peak near Tujunga, and all the other roadless areas in the San Gabriel Mountains.
Join us on May 31th to request that these areas be protected as wilderness on public record. CHC and Sierra Club volunteers will also be there to answer any questions you may have. For more information call Dianne at 661-259-2743 or [email protected]
