FEDERAL GRANT OF THE DAY

FY 2012 Evaluation Project to Assess Best Practices in EDA’s University Center Program- Institutions of higher education have extensive resources, including specialized research, technology transfer and commercialization capabilities, and faculty expertise that can be leveraged to support regional innovation ecosystems and promote vibrant regional economies, job creation and business growth. The EDA-supported University Center (UC) program under section 207 of the Public Works and Economic Development Act of 1965 (42 U.S.C. § 3147) (PWEDA) is specifically designed to marshal these resources in support of regional economic development strategies to catalyze economic development in regions with chronic and acute economic distress. The UCs, which EDA considers long-term partners in economic development, provide technical assistance to build the capacity of local governments, economic development organizations, and businesses located in their service regions. EDA seeks applications to review the attributes of EDA-funded University Centers (UCs), evaluate the types of activities that have the greatest impact, and identify best practices that will enable policymakers and practitioners to more effectively understand the broad impact of the UC program in supporting regional economic development efforts.  For more information, see full grant announcement.
