‘Clippings for Carrots’ teaches 2nd graders about environmentally sustainable practices. Judy Fish, Ph.D., Superintendent, Saugus Union School District, Greg McWilliams, President, Newhall Land and Dave Green of Agromin kick off the program on Thursday, October 18th, at the Bridgeport Elementary School located at 23670 Newhall Ranch Road in Valencia.

So, where does the green waste from your home go once you put it into your green bin and it’s taken away?  Thanks to a unique partnership between Newhall Land and Agromin, green waste from homes throughout the Santa Clarita Valley is transformed into mulch and used at Newhall Orchards for the company’s agricultural operations.

As part of Newhall’s Environmental Education Program, second graders in the Saugus Union School District will be participating in a “Clippings for Carrots” program which will teach children how to grow their own vegetables by using mulch which was made from the grass clippings and yard trimmings from their homes in the Santa Clarita Valley - completing the circle of sustainability.
