Several fires continue to burn in the Los Angeles County Operational Area.  The “Canyon Fire” is in Malibu near the Pepperdine University campus. 2,400 acres have burned. 10 homes and 6 businesses are damaged. 3 homes, 1 church and 1 commercial trailer were destroyed. The fire is 10% contained.

The mandatory areas of evacuation for the Canyon Fire in Malibu include:  Topanga Canyon, Puerto Canyon, Sweetwater, Carbon Canyon, Montecido; Malibu Road; Malibu Colony; Malibu Crest; Serra Retreat; Big Rock; Carbon Mesa, and Rambla Pacifica.  Voluntary evacuations include:  Coral Canyon.

School closures for Monday, October 22, 2007:  Malibu High, Malibu Middle School, Point Dume Elementary School, Webster Elementary School, Cabrillo Elementary School, and Topanga Elementary School. For the latest updates, contact your local school.

The “Buckweed Fire” is in the Agua Dulce/Canyon Country area.  25,000 acres have burned.  25 structures were lost.  900 homes are without power.  1,200 fire personnel are on the scene.  The fire is 10% contained.

The mandatory areas of evacuation for the Buckweed Fire in the Agua Dulce/Canyon Country area include: all of Vasquez Canyon Road; all of Bouquet Canyon Road; and all of San Francisquito Canyon Road.

The “Ranch Fire”, near Castaic has burned 29,000 acres and is burning into Ventura County. The fire is 10% contained.

The mandatory area of evacuation for the Ranch Fire near Castaic is Hasley Canyon at Romero.
