Thank you for visiting MayorDude.com! Our goal with this program is to engage young people in the community and in local government here in Santa Clarita. As a high school principal and member of our City Council, I am well aware of how very busy people are, of the pressures on our families today, and how difficult it can be to attract the interest of our youth.
I also know that our quality of life here in Santa Clarita is richer because of the involvement by those who live and work here. The more people are involved in their community, the better Santa Clarita will become. One of the most difficult audiences to engage is our youth because typical outreach methods usually do not attract the attention of youth. Mayor Dude seeks to grab their attention and engage them in the community.
On a regular basis, we will be offering "Mayor Dude Challenges" to youth. These will usually be challenges that involve a community activity or attendance at a local event. We are encouraging participants of these challenges to submit photos of themselves and posting them to the Mayor Dude site. Perhaps your class would be interested in participating in one of these challenges, or, in creating your own challenge.
We are also scheduling on line chats with the Mayor. In this way, students can ask questions of interest to them while utilizing cutting edge communications technology. Perhaps your class would like to schedule an online session with the Mayor for this purpose, or, if you are interested in having the Mayor attend a school assembly.
If you are interested in participating in the Mayor Dude program, please email Gail Ortiz, Communications Manager at: [email protected]. She will coordinate your requests with my calendar and help provide your students with a fun and interesting look at our local government.
I want to say to each of you who work so hard to educate our children that you are invaluable! I truly appreciate everything you do everyday to provide Santa Clarita students with a top notch education. THANK YOU!
Frank Ferry
