Financial Times reporter Andrew Ward in Clarksville, Tennessee writes an interesting story on Democrat Harold Ford’s run for a Senate seat in Tennessee. Is Mr. Ford more centrist and moderate or is it just a ruse to get votes from Independents and moderate Republicans?

“It is Saturday morning in Clarksville and local Democrats are gathering outside the public library for a campaign rally. The star attraction: Harold Ford, the Democratic Senate candidate for Tennessee in next month’s election.  “As Mr. Ford’s rock star-style campaign bus pulls into the parking lot, the 150-strong crowd erupts into a noisy chant of “Vote Democrat!” But the partisan mood is damped down when Mr. Ford takes to the makeshift stage to deliver his address.”

“If you’re looking for someone who’s going to beat his chest and say, ‘I’m a Democrat’, don’t vote for me,” he says, pledging only to “do the right thing” regardless of party policy.”  You can read the rest of the article at the Financial Times web site at: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/837a90ba-638a-11db-bc82-0000779e2340.html
