The Hart school board has approved a $90,000 public relations plan in hopes of fixing its image and improving communication with the community reports the Daily News.

Scott Wilk, former aide to U.S. Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon, and Tim Whyte, former general manager of the Santa Clarita Signal, will create a strategic public relations plan to help restore the image of the Hart Union High School District.

Since 2005, the district has faced several controversial situations, including a discrimination lawsuit, multimillion-dollar construction budget overruns and a much-delayed Castaic High school.

The communication plan will include a $30,000 media audit that will look at how the district communicates with the community and the media, and how it could work to improve its strategies – plus a $10,000-a-month retainer for Wilk and Whyte.
