(From the Signal) The Canyon Country library’s renovation has ceased since the city of Santa Clarita decided to take over operations of it and the two other libraries within city limits, Los Angeles County staff said Wednesday.

The Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library remains closed indefinitely.

“This is very discouraging to me,” Santa Clarita City Councilwoman Marsha McLean said. “The library is still in the county’s hands and will not be in the city’s hands until July of next year. … They shouldn’t be holding Canyon Country residents hostage because they’re mad at what we did. It’s just not fair.”

Tony Bell, spokesman to Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, said the city’s decision “wasn’t well thought out.”
