Los Angeles County Mayor and Metropolitan Transportation Authority 2nd Vice Chair Michael D. Antonovich joined L.A. City Councilwoman Jan Perry and the 2011 Rose Queen Evanne Elizabeth Friedman in visiting the Metro Gold Line in the Little Tokyo/Arts District to encourage the public to utilize the Metro Rail and Bus Lines to attend the Pasadena Tournament of Roses as well as all New Year’s Day celebrations.

Metro will provide free rides on December 31st on all Metro bus and rail lines from 9:00 p.m. until 2 a.m. on the morning of January 1st.  After 2:00 a.m., the regular fare of $1.50 will go into effect.

Additionally, Metro will provide 24-hour service on Metro Rail and Metro Orange Line on December 31st to accommodate Rose Parade patrons.  Extra rail capacity will be provided for travel to/from Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses Parade and the Rose Bowl game between the Wisconsin Badgers and Texas Christian University Horned Frogs on New Year’s Day.

“I encourage you to Go Metro and have a fun and safe New Years,” said Antonovich.  Last year, the California Highway Patrol arrested 241 drivers in Los Angeles County on DUI charges during New Years weekend.
