(From khts) With thousands of flags placed on graves by local Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Eternal Valley Memorial Park in Newhall will be the gathering place for the 23rd annual Memorial Day Ceremony celebrating, honoring and remembering those who have served our country in the military.

Patriotic songs from the Santa Clarita Master Chorale and a Condor Squadron flyover are just two of the highlights of the event, which begins at 10 a.m. Monday at the cemetery on Sierra Highway.

Congressman Buck McKeon, who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, will be the keynote speaker of the day. Retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Duane Harte, chairman of the Santa Clarita Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

“We are proud to once again provide a pivotal gathering place for our community to come and pay tribute to those brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, men and women who died serving our country,” said Jim Biby, marketing director of the Dignity Memorial network, which owns Eternal Valley.
