I was also on a newly configured Boeing 777 and sat facing the back of the plane for the first time and quite enjoyed it. The new configuration allows for the seats to go completely flat if you want to sleep which is what I try to do for at least part of these long flights. It just makes acclimating to the time zone you’re arriving at a little easier.
The rest of the time on the flight I have found myself staring out the window more often than not. Of course I read and write throughout these long flights but have been spending more time lately looking out the window. I have found that it is some of the only time when I can just be alone with my thoughts; no cell phone ringing, no emails pinging, and no one bugging me except for the flight attendant occasionally. Just the peace and solitude of me, my thoughts and the clouds!!
It was an equally spectacular and clear day arriving in London. The flight path took us right over the City of London and down the Thames River to Heathrow airport. You could see all the sites of London from Big Ben and the House Parliament, the London Eye Ferris wheel, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, and Tower Bridge, basically all the great British landmarks!
It is truly a beautiful time of year here with great weather and all the tourists are gone!
