(From the-signal.com) The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to open bidding on reconstructing and resurfacing several roads on the Santa Clarita Valley’s West Side on Tuesday.

Stevenson Ranch will see three of its major thoroughfares reconstructed, including The Old Road, Pico Canyon Road and Chiquella Lane, according to the county Public Works Department. The project will also reconstruct three roads in the Gorman area.

About 10 miles of road will be repaved, said Department of Public Works spokesman Mike Kaspar. The project also involves sidewalk work, curb work and traffic signals.

The plan calls for the use of a rubber-asphalt aggregate, which includes recycled items such as tires, said Kaspar. The aggregate will last up to 40 percent longer than a typical asphalt road and allows for a smoother ride for motorists at a lower cost.
