The following is a recap of the arrests made in the Santa Clarita Valley from 12:45 AM Friday morning, March 16th through 6:42 PM Monday, March 19th 2007 as reported by the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station. Note that there is a disproportionate amount of arrests in the Canyon Country area as evidenced by the Santa Clarita Sheriff log.

Canyon Country appears to be a hot bed of crime activity for the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station with everything from Groping and Burglary to Drugs and Driving Under the Influence. Check out the reports below:

Friday - March 16, 2007 - 12:45 a.m. - Canyon Country:  Canyon Country resident Christopher Bugarin, MH/23, was arrested after allegedly stealing items from the CVS Pharmacy in Canyon Country.  The suspect was later located at nearby residence and the items were recovered.  He was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a misdemeanor Theft charge and was released on a citation pending court proceedings.  -ref 05057

Friday -  March 16, 2007 - 1:47 a.m. - Newhall: Bicycle stop leads to narcotic arrest - Deputies Hernandez and Griffy arrested a Newhall man after stopping him as he rode a bicycle through a Newhall neighborhood early Friday morning.  The suspect, MH/21, was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine) and a misdemeanor charge of Possessing Narcotic Paraphernalia.  He is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.  -ref 05058

Friday - March 16, 2007 - 9:45 a.m. - Canyon Country: Battery on school campus results in arrest - Deputy Barretto detained and booked a Canyon Country youth Friday after investigating a battery incident that occurred on the campus of Sierra Vista Junior High School Thursday.  The subject, MO/13, was released to his parents pending future court proceedings.  -ref 05069

Friday - March 16, 2007 - 10:45 a.m. - Valencia: Two suspects were arrested on Grand Theft charges after allegedly embezzling money from their employer.  Deputy Peterson arrested the two, FW/19 and FB/19, both of Saugus on suspicion of stealing thousands of dollars from their Valencia Town Center employer dating back to November 2006.  Both suspects were booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on felony Charges of Grand Theft by Embezzlement.  Each is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.  -ref 05078

Friday - March 16, 2007 - 3:15 p.m. - Valencia: Oscar Chacon, MO/21, of Canyon Country was arrested for allegedly stealing clothing from the Valencia JCPenny store.  He was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a misdemeanor Theft charge and was released on citation pending court proceedings.  -ref 05084

Friday - March 16, 2007 - 6:05 p.m. - Canyon Country: Two suspects were arrested on Commercial Burglary charges Friday evening after allegedly altering product barcodes in an effort to steal items from the Canyon Country Wal-Mart.  Reginal Fulks, MB/30, of North Hills was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony Burglary charge.  It was also determined he had a $50,000 warrant for Driving Without a License.  He is being held in lieu of $70,000 bail.  Tolanda Batrell FB/21 of Arleta was booked on a felony Burglary charge and felony Possession of a Fraudulent Drivers License.  She is being held in lieu of $22,000 bail.  -ref 05095

Friday - March 16, 2007 - 6:35 p.m. - Valencia: An alert deputy arrested a Valencia man wanted for questioning in connection with a Valencia vehicle theft case that occurred in February of this year.  Deputy Hodge detained the suspect, MB/19, at 27095 McBean Parkway after recognizing he matched the picture on one of the station’s wanted bulletins.  The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on felony Vehicle Theft charges.  He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.  -ref 02661

Friday - March 16, 2007 - 10:25 p.m. - Newhall: Deputy Vaziri arrested Maximino Kuna, MH/40, of Newhall on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol near Lyons Avenue and Railroad Avenue, Newhall.  The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on misdemeanor charges of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Driving Without a License.  He was later released on citation pending future court proceedings. -ref 05109

Saturday - March 17, 2007 - 2:05 p.m. - Canyon Country: Deputy Marion arrested a Canyon Country man for Reasonable Cause Burglary after he was found to be in possession of several tools and other items commonly used to commit burglaries.  The suspect was also on felony probation.  The suspect, MW/21, was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station on a felony charge of Reasonable Cause Burglary and a misdemeanor charge of Possessing Burglary Tools.  He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.  -ref 05146

Saturday - March 17, 2007 - 3:00 p.m. - Saugus: Canyon Country resident John Wilbourn, MW/20, was arrested after he reportedly fled the Saugus Best Buy store with music compact disks.  The suspect ran from the location and was detained a short distance away.  The property was recovered.  The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a Theft charge and was released on citation pending court proceedings.  -ref 05150

Saturday - March 17, 2007 - 4:50 p.m. - Canyon Country: Canyon Country resident Christina Ward, FW/32, was arrested after allegedly stealing items from the Canyon Country Wal-Mart.  The suspect resisted store security efforts to detain her.  She was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony Robbery charge and was released after posting bond.  -ref 05156

Saturday - March 17, 2007 - 6:55 p.m. - Newhall: Deputy Vaziri arrested Jonathan Eaton, MW/31, on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol and Hit and Run after he crossed the center divider, hit a car near Orchard Village Road and Wiley Canyon Road, Valencia, and fled the scene.  The suspect was detained by an off-duty law enforcement official who followed him to an area near 16th Street and Newhall Avenue, Newhall.  The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on misdemeanor charges of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Hit and Run and Driving on a Suspended License.  He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.  -ref 05158

Sunday - March 18, 2007 - 12:50 a.m. - Canyon Country: Deputy Painter arrested a Canyon Country man for Reasonable Cause Burglary early Sunday morning after he was stopped on a bicycle in an area of recent residential and vehicle burglaries and was in possession of burglary tools.  The suspect, MW/27, was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station on a felony charge of Reasonable Cause Burglary and a misdemeanor charge of Possessing Burglary Tools.  He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. -ref 05166

Monday -  March 19, 2007 - 12:40 a.m. - Newhall: Pedestrian stop leads to narcotic arrests - Deputies Sweetland and Hernandez arrested two suspects on drug related charges as they walked through the streets of a Newhall neighborhood Monday morning.  During the contact they noticed one of the suspects appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.  The first suspect, MH/21, of Newhall was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance (cocaine) and a misdemeanor charge of being Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance.  He is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.  The second suspect, MH/21, also of Newhall was booked on a felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine).  He is also being held in lieu of $10,000 bail. -ref 05216

Monday - March 19, 2007 - 2:15 a.m. - Canyon Country: An alert deputy arrested a man attempting to break into car early Monday morning.  While patrolling in 19300 block of Soledad Canyon Road, Canyon Country, Deputy Velek spotted a male attempting to break into a parked vehicle near the USA gas station.  The suspect, Costa Ocampo, MH/38, of Canyon Country was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony Attempted Burglary charge.  It was later determined the suspect had used fifteen different aliases and was on active parole for numerous previous felony offenses under other names.  He subsequently faces Parole Violation charges and is being held without bail. -ref 05219

Monday - March 19, 2007 - 8:10 a.m. - Canyon Country: Deputies Hawkins and Scharlin arrested a Valencia youth Monday after a resident spotted him spray painting graffiti (tagging) the walls underneath the Whites Canyon Bridge.  The juvenile, MW/13, was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a misdemeanor charges of Vandalism and Possession of Vandalism Tools.  He was later released to his parents pending future court proceedings.  -ref 05235

Monday - March 19, 2007 - 11:00 a.m. - Canyon Country: A Canyon Country man was arrested after he allegedly used a BB gun to shoot out the rear window of a vehicle in the 18200 block of Jakes Way, Canyon Country.  The suspect, Brian Rowan, MW/18, was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony Vandalism charge.  He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. -ref 05244

Monday - March 19, 2007 - 11:45 p.m. - Canyon Country: Deputy Banks arrested Denise Danaher, FW/50, of Carmel on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs after she was involved in a traffic collision at Soledad Canyon Road and Crossglade Avenue.  The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on misdemeanor charges of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs.  She was later released on citation pending future court proceedings. -ref 05245

Monday - March 19, 2007 - 6:42 p.m. - Canyon Country: A man was arrested after he reportedly groped a Canyon Country woman Monday evening near Isabella Parkway, Canyon Country.  Witnesses intervened and held the suspect down until deputies arrived and took him into custody.  The suspect, MW/41, of Canyon Country was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony sex related charge.  He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. -ref 05263
