With hundreds of Castaic residents clamoring for approval of the 1,644-home Northlake project because it includes a new high school campus, the development company on Wednesday presented county officials with a new benefit - another park.

In a hearing before the county Regional Planning Commission, SunCal proposed including a 10-acre soccer park, which would bring the amount of parkland proposed in the project to nearly 67acres, company officials said. The soccer park would replace 54 planned sites for homes reports the Daily News..

“We’ve heard from the community a desire for active recreation, and we believe that with the design of this park, depending on the age of the kids playing, you could have three to 14 soccer fields right in the heart of Northlake,” said Ray Pearl, a company spokesman who handles government relations. “And that’s something that we’ve heard as we’ve gone to various community meetings - that not only will that benefit the residents of Northlake, but all of Castaic, to have that facility available to them.”

After county planners said they were not ready to issue a recommendation, the commission postponed its decision. No date was set for when the project will be considered again.
