Please take notice of the new signage on the southbound I-5 through the Newhall Pass. The new signs state “Trucks Use Right Lane” in an attempt to help mitigate traffic through the pass while the truck bypass is closed.

Caltrans will have staff monitoring the flow of traffic to see how effective the signage is, but they are also aware that the volume may be artificially light at present due to some commuters possibly staying home this past week due to the fires.

Observations so far seem to indicate that the slow lane restriction is helping out, but in the words of Caltrans they don’t want to claim a victory yet as other factors may still be waiting to get back to normal.
