With all 75 precincts reporting, incumbents Gloria Mercado-Fortine and Steven Sturgeon have been re-elected to the William S. Hart School Board. Mercado-Fortine received 35.71% of the vote, Steven Sturgeon received 34.36%.

Joe Messina, who ran a great campaign for change and accountability, came in third with nearly 30% of the votes cast. Like many local voters, Joe had been outraged by the cost overruns on the modernization of Canyon High School and Arroyo Seco Junior High School that went from $2 million to $40 million and the failure of the current Hart School Board to move forward in any meaningful way the building of a high school in Castaic.

It looks like our communities will be getting more lip service and open hostility to the Measure V oversight committee and the continued lack of financial oversight and controls. The status quo rules when there is a lackluster voter turnout.
