Authorities say a big water main has burst in the Los Angeles suburb of Studio City and people have evacuated their homes as thousands of gallons of water flood a stretch of the famous Ventura Boulevard.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott said no injuries have been reported since the 64-inch main broke late Saturday night, but firefighters rescued a person who was in a car that had been swept away in the flooding reports the Associated Press.

Scott says water was several feet deep in some places.

Scott said more than 125 firefighters have responded and they were trying to redirect water toward a Los Angeles storm drainer.

It will likely take authorities four or five hours to shut off the flow, Scott said.
