Finally election day has arrived! It’s time to let the chips fall where the may. Most important is that you get out and vote; have your voice heard. Cut through the noise and start thinking for yourself by getting local folks elected that will start to question the norms and not be “yes men and women”. The following are a few of the important local elections that will affect our schools and communities. The Beacon is recommending a YES Vote on Measure A and encouraging you to take a moment to review the candidates below and to vote for these good people.

YES on Measure A

NO on Measure B

NO on Measure C

Newhall School District

  • Craig Duswalt, entrepreneur/parent
  • Phil Ellis, bank attorney/parent
  • Christy Smith, community volunteer

Santa Clarita Community College District
Seat No. 1

  • Brian Koegle, attorney- Brian is a great local volunteer; he is smart and will question some of the practices at College of the Canyons. We would recommend that you vote for him as he will have a positive impact on COC.

Seat No. 3

  • Joan MacGregor, incumbent- Joan is one of the few that has questioned Dr. Van Hook at COC. She has done a great job to date and needs to be re-elected as COC must have checks and balances and not a board of “yes” men and women!

William S. Hart Union High School District- The Hart School Board needs new members and we are commending the candidates below as the best to achieve change. The incumbent had his opportunity with little to no results; the board needs to be completely changed up. The proposed Castaic High School must be a priority.

  • Bob Jensen, CPA, Newhall School District board member
  • Joe Messina, small business owner
  • Suzan Solomon, NSD board member

Newhall County Water District

  • Maria Gutzeit, incumbent
  • Michael Cruz
  • B.J. Atkins, incumbent
