Image not recoveredSaltShaker-300x199.jpg(From the FT.com) A consortium of US health organizations announced a plan on Monday to encourage food manufacturers and restaurants to reduce the amount of salt in dozens of staple items by some 25 per cent during the next five years.
The announcement lists specific sodium reduction targets for 61 categories of supermarket foods – including cold cuts, salad dressing and baked goods – and 25 categories of restaurant foods, from hamburgers and french fries to cookies and pies.
