- Obama: Congress may not tackle immigration soon - President Obama said Wednesday that there “may not be an appetite” in Congress to deal with immigration immediately after going through a tough legislative year. (USA Today)
- Mojave cross case: a signal on religious symbols - The Supreme Court’s conservative majority signaled a greater willingness to allow religious symbols on public land Wednesday, a stance that could have important implications for future church-state disputes. (AP)
- S.F. Fed Bank chief may get No. 2 U.S. spot - President Obama is expected to appoint Janet Yellen vice chairwoman of the Federal Reserve today, elevating the former UC Berkeley economist and current president of the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank to a key post at the institution that is supposed to curb inflation while boosting employment. (San Francisco Chronicle)
- Congress rejected grant, but free online courses growing - President Obama’s original plan for community colleges included $500 million to create free online courses that individual institutions could then customize for their students. That money never materialized — it was left out of the student aid legislation in last month’s health care bill. (USA Today)

FEDERAL GRANT OF THE DAY
- Rehabilitation Training: Rehabilitation Long-Term Training—Rehabilitation Administration- The Rehabilitation Long-Term Training program provides financial assistance for—(1) Projects that provide basic or advanced training leading to an academic degree in areas of personnel shortages in rehabilitation as identified by the Secretary; (2) Projects that provide a specified series of courses or program of study leading to the award of a certificate in areas of personnel shortages in rehabilitation as identified by the Secretary; and (3) Projects that provide support for medical residents enrolled in residency training programs in the specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation.
