5 Steps to Motorcycle Safety

SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR DUDE

Do you ride a motorcycle? If so here is some information that you need to know…take notes!

Did you know that last year, there were 50 traffic collisions involving motorcycles in our City with 10% resulting in a fatality? That’s a 39% increase over the previous year and way too many! It’s a fact that motorcyclists are 26 times more likely to die in a traffic collision than someone riding in a car.

Rather than just remind motorcyclists to slow down, wear a helmet and be aware of their surroundings, the City is going several steps further. We’ve reached out to local motorcycle shops, Nelson Motorcycle Training Center at College of the Canyons, insurance companies and local law enforcement for participation.

If you drive a motorcycle or love someone who does, pay attention! Motorcyclists are now invited to sign up for a low-cost motorcycle education class offered at College of the Canyons through Nelson Motorcycle Training Center and once you pass, you can receive a host of great discounts from local motorcycle shops on parts, gear, accessories and more (see below for a list of participating vendors).

The Nelson Motorcycle Training Center offers riders MSF safety certification that will not only make riding safer but also help reduce motorcycle-related accidents on City streets. The program includes hands-on instruction, classroom lecture, and great tips on having fun, riding smart and riding safely. Click here or call (800) 593-7909 to sign up.

If you ride a motorcycle or know someone who does, please encourage them to enroll in the Nelson Motorcycle Training Center and take advantage of the amazing discounts available. Together we can dramatically reduce the number of fatalities and motorcycle accidents with this program and we look forward to your participation. Whether you are a motorist, a motorcycle rider or you know someone that rides, get acquainted with the 5 steps below, benefit from discounts below and Ride Safe and Ride Smart! Live to ride another day!

Many of these motorcycle accidents and fatalities involve young people, which is always a tragedy. To help motorcyclists be safer and reduce the amount of accidents, especially those resulting in death, the City is rolling out a comprehensive new program that includes the entire community.

As always,
Frank Ferry
