(From the AP) A Southern California congressman wants to clip the wings of noisy, low-flying helicopters. Rep. Howard L. Berman introduced a bill Thursday requiring the FAA to set flight paths and minimum altitudes for helicopter operations in residential neighborhoods of Los Angeles County. Emergency responders and the military would be exempt.
Currently, the FAA only has such rules for planes.
The Valley Village Democrat tells the Los Angeles Times that helicopter traffic in the area has become ridiculous and he’s been getting a lot of complaints. He cited the slew of TV news helicopters that recently hovered over a closed section of Interstate 405 during the “Carmageddon” freeway closure.
