Tomorrow the Citizens Redistricting Commission (CRC) will be taking votes (Board of Equalization, Congress, Senate & Assembly) on their final maps. Those maps are now on the CRC’s web site:
Congress – The map has remained unchanged and it continues to keep SCV whole. However, there is a little finger than comes in from the SFV and touches the 14 Freeway. It may affect a few residents.
Assembly – Agua Dulce was finally placed into the SCV Assembly District, keeping SCV whole. However, the Assembly seat has the same SFV finger as the congressional seat.
Senate – The final map divides the SCV into two Senate seats. The western part of our valley in linked to SFV, east Ventura County and Malibu. The eastern portion is linked to Antelope Valley and Victor Valley.
To view maps log onto www.wedrawthelines.ca.gov, then click on the Interactive Visualization link on the home page. From there it will take you to Google Maps. Click on the menu bar at the top and it will take you final maps.
Some thoughts…
- The SCV has fared well in these maps and I attribute it to the grass roots efforts of our community.
- I especially want to acknowledge Mayor Marsha McLean and her leadership in advocating for the congressional seat.
- Additionally, I want to thank the entire Santa Clarita City Council, Board of Trustees of the Santa Clarita Community College District, Governing Board of the William S. Hart High School District, Board of Directors of the Castaic Lake Water Agency, Board of Directors of the Newhall County Water District, the Town Councils from Castaic and West Ranch and the SCV Patriots for their advocacy during this process.
