For the weekend of Friday August 24th through Sunday August 26th Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Personnel issued approximately 160 citations and warnings for traffic, parking and other related traffic offenses including misdemeanors and infractions. Deputies responded to 23 traffic collisions or related incidents.
Station personnel arrested and booked, or field released, 42 adults and detained 8 juveniles on 26 felony and 24 misdemeanor primary charges as summarized below:
Friday - August 24, 2007 - 2:09 a.m. - Saugus: Deputy Vaziri arrested Ben Carrillo, MH/42, of Saugus on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol after detaining him in a parking lot near Bouquet Canyon Road and Seco Canyon Road. The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. He faces misdemeanor charges of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and being Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance. He was later released on citation pending future court proceedings. -ref 15876
Friday - August 24, 2007 - 5:10 p.m. - Canyon Country: Deputy Larkin arrested a Canyon Country woman on drug related charges after detaining her in the 26900 block of Honby Street and reportedly finding methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in her possession. The suspect, FW/20, was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance and misdemeanor charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Hypodermic Needles and being Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance. She is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail pending future court proceedings. -ref 15926
Friday - August 24, 2007 - 10:20 p.m. - Newhall: Baseball bat assault ends in arrest - Deputies arrested three Newhall men on assault charges Friday night. Deputies responded to the 22400 block of 5th Street where the fire department was treating a victim for head trauma. Further investigation revealed that the man had reportedly been struck by a baseball bat and repeatedly kicked while he was on the ground. Witnesses reported that the victim apparently knew his attackers and that alcohol may have been a factor in the incident. The victim was treated at the scene and was transported to a local hospital. His condition is not known. The investigation is ongoing. Freddy Berduo, MH/34, Alex Berduo, MH/22, and Bernal Berduo, MH/18, were all booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on felony charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon. They are each being held in lieu of $30,000 bail pending future court proceedings. -ref 15941
Saturday - August 25, 2007 - 12:30 a.m. - Canyon Country: Large illegal party at business leads to arrests - An alert resident flagged down deputies early Saturday morning to report that there was a large fight in the parking lot at the 19000 block of Soledad Canyon Road. The deputies responded and saw more than 40 people running out onto Soledad Canyon Road. The deputies discovered more than 150 additional people in the parking lot, many of which began running in different directions when they spotted the deputies. Two of the individuals ran into a business, known as Canyon Gifts and Payment Center at 19008 Soledad Canyon Road, where the illegal party was reportedly being held and locked the door. After several minutes the deputies were able to convince the men to unlock the door. Chris Jones, MB/19, of Palmdale and Jimmy White, MB/18, of Canyon Country were arrested on misdemeanor charges of Resisting and Obstructing a Peace Officer. They were later released on citations pending future court proceedings. Additional witnesses who were detained, reportedly told deputies that they were invited to the party and paid $5.00 each to get inside. The investigation is ongoing. Deputies issued 17 citations for Curfew Violations and made additional arrests (refer to 15487).

Saturday - August 25, 2007 - 12:45 a.m. – Unincorp. L. A. County - Val Verde: Deputies Armstrong and Bryerton arrested James Barnes, MB/31, of Val Verde on vehicle theft and other charges after detaining him in the 28800 block of Lincoln Avenue. The deputies responded to a resident’s call of a suspicious vehicle. Deputies contacted the man and determined the vehicle he was in had been reported stolen out of Valencia on August 24, 2007. In addition to being in a stolen car, the suspect, who is also on parole for burglary, reportedly had possession of marijuana and electronic items that he could not account for. He was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on felony charges of Taking a Vehicle Without the Owners and Receiving Stolen Property. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of Possession of Marijuana. He was also on parole and is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail pending future court proceedings. -ref 15888
Saturday - August 25, 2007 - 1:25 a.m. - Canyon Country: Deputies Christensen and Dorman, assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station’s Community Interaction Team (CIT), responded to the large party call (above - ref 15958) and arrested a Northridge man on drug related charges after stopping a vehicle with several occupants near Sierra Highway and Canyon Park Boulevard. The deputies reportedly found ecstasy and marijuana in man’s possession. The suspect, MB/19, was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance and a misdemeanor charge of Possession of Marijuana. He is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail pending future court proceedings. Another occupant in the vehicle, MW/19, of Los Angeles, was cited for Possession of Marijuana. -ref 15487
Saturday August 25, 2007 - 3:30 p.m. - Valencia: Deputies arrested Yoshua Guerra, MH/32, of Newhall on burglary charges after he allegedly stole clothing and cosmetic items from the Valencia Sears Store. The suspect was detained by loss prevention personnel until deputies arrived. He was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony Burglary charge. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail pending future court proceedings. -ref 15988
Saturday - August 25, 2007 - 6:45 p.m. – Unincorp. L.A. County - Canyon Country: Deputies Peacock and Lorenzi, of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station’s Off Road Enforcement Team, arrested Michael Howard, MW/30, of Canyon Country on theft related charges after detaining him near Burton Way and Vasquez Canyon Road. The deputies reportedly determined the off-road motorcycle the man was riding had been reported stolen out of Ventura in 2004. The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on felony charge of Receiving Stolen Property. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail pending future court proceedings. -ref 15997
Sunday - August 26, 2007 - 1:47 a.m. - Valencia: Deputy Vaziri arrested Imre Petroczky, MW/53, of Los Angeles on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol after stopping him near McBean Parkway and Baywood Lane. The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. He faces a misdemeanor charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Sunday - August 26, 2007 - 9:15 a.m. - Canyon Country: Deputy Liebe arrested a Canyon Country man on drug related charges after conducting a traffic stop near Via Princessa and Whites Canyon Road and reportedly finding methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his possession. The suspect, MH/38, was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance and a misdemeanor charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Sunday - August 26, 2007 - 10:20 a.m. - Valencia: Deputy Hutt arrested a Canyon Country man on drug related charges after conducting a traffic stop near Magic Mountain Parkway and Tourney Road and reportedly finding the man was in unlawful possession of prescription medication (vicodin). The suspect, MW/25, was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Sunday - August 26, 2007 - 6:45 p.m. - Canyon Country: Deputies Fitzpatrick and Rooney arrested a Canyon Country man on drug related charges after detaining him in the 19600 block of Steinway Street and reportedly finding methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his possession. The suspect, MW/36, was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on a felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance and a misdemeanor charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Sunday - August 26, 2007 - 11:45 p.m. - Canyon Country: Deputies arrested Herbert Whitfield, MW/43, transient, on theft and fraud charges after he allegedly used a forged check and false identification in an attempt to purchase a television from the Canyon Country Wal-Mart Store. When confronted, the man attempted to run out of the store, but was detained by loss prevention personnel until deputies arrived. He was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on felony charges of Burglary and Possession of Fraudulent Identification with the Intent to Commit Fraud. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail pending future court proceedings. -ref 16059
